MOSCATEL ROXO 20 YEARS IS AWARDED THE BEST FORTIFIED WINE OF THE YEAR
W AWARDS, THE ACCOLADES FROM WINE CRITIC ANÍBAL COUTINHO DISTINGUISH JOSÉ MARIA DA FONSECA’S MOSCATEL ROXO 20 YEARS
José Maria da Fonseca Moscatel Roxo 20 Years is awarded by Anibal Coutinho’s W Awards as the best fortified wine of the year.
The W awards distinguish annually the excellency within the wine industry.
The Moscatel Roxo 20 years is a dessert wine produced in the Setúbal Península, which was demarcated in 1907. This variety was almost extinct and can only be found in this region in the area of Azeitão. The grape is purple in color and shows an intense aroma with some spiciness and a very concentrated and fruity palate. The wine is a blend of 4 different vintages, where the youngest is 23 years old and the oldest in 80 years old. The ageing took place in used oak barrels, as the aim is to get a slow oxidation rather than the oak aromas as flavors.
