ALAMBRE MOSCATEL ROXO IS RELEASED
JOSÉ MARIA DA FONSECA INTRODUCES ITS NEW ALAMBRE MOSCATEL ROXO
José Maria da Fonseca, the oldest producer of Moscatel de Setúbal, introduces its youngest Moscatel Roxo from the company’s portfolio, the Alambre Moscatel Roxo 2010.
The company, releases for the first time a young Moscatel Roxo, with a modern profile, with the quality guarantee that comes from over 150 years of production of Moscatel de Setúbal.
The Moscatel Roxo de Setúbal is a rare and unique grape variety, which was almost extinct in the 20th century. Although it is considered to resemble the Moscatel de Setúbal, its appearance is quite distinct, due to its purple color. Also in the aroma and palate, these two grapes show different characteristics.
José Maria da Fonseca, played an instrumental role in preserving this grape variety, as it was Fernando Soares Franco (5th generation of the family) who saved the last hectare of Moscatel Roxo, on a vineyard located in the Quinta de Camarate estate. Currently, the company owns approximately 10 hectares, out of the 40 that are planted in the region. This is the basis for a range of different wines, from fortified wines, to a rosé and also a sparkling rosé.
